Project Experience

1. Scientific coordinator of INSEMTIVES – EU-funded project which will bridge the gap between human and computational intelligence in the current semantic content authoring R&D landscape through incentives-driven methodologies, methods and tools optimally exploiting and combining the two to enable the massive creation and feasible management of ontologies and RDF data (EU FP7 STREP, 2009 - 2012).
2. Activity leader in SOA4All – EU-funded project that aims to provide a service delivery platform through which billions of parties are exposing and consuming services via advanced Web technology (EU FP7 IP, 2008 - 2011).
3. Senior researcher in SARIT/SARID – Austrian support actions funded by the FIT-IT program aiming at producing a training infrastructure and to support dissemination and awareness raising activities in the field of semantic technologies (FIT-IT SAs, 2008 - 2009).
4. Project coordinator of Service Web 3.0 – EU-funded support action aiming to provide roadmaps for various target groups, organize and coordinate standardization activities, conferences and other events together with national and regional programmes and initiatives that will enable the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) revolution towards the next generation of the World Wide Web (EU FP7 SA, 2008 - 2009).
5. Scientific coordinator of TripCom – EU-funded project aiming at integrating Tuple Space, Semantic Web and Web Service technologies in order to enhance tuplespaces with means to semantically represent and structure tuple-based information and to improve current Web Services interaction paradigms with the flexible and powerful asynchronous communication model of Tuple Spaces (EU FP6 STREP, 2006 - 2009).
6. Senior researcher in LarKC – EU-funded project developing the Large Knowledge Collider, a pluggable distributed reasoning framework scaling to Web reasoning by trading quality for computational cost and by embracing incompleteness and unsoundness (EU FP7 IP, 2008 - 2011).
7. Senior researcher in Active – EU-funded FP7 project developing enterprize knowledge management solutions based on Web 2.0 and Semantic Web principles (EU FP7 IP, 2008 - 2011).
8. Senior researcher in Salero – EU-funded project that aims at making cross media-production for games, movies and broadcast faster, better and cheaper by combining computer graphics, language technology, semantic web technologies as well as content based search and retrieval (EU FP6 IP, 2007 - 2009).
9. Project manager of SEnSE – an Austrian project that deals with the development on an Engineering Support Environment which improves communication in product development processes. The scenarios targeted by the SENSE project are intelligent change management, engineering rationale detection and conflict resolution and redesign of existing products. (FIT-IT, 2007 - 2008).
10. Manager of KnowledgeWeb – EU-funded Network of Excellence aiming at enabling a wide scale dissemination of Semantic Web technologies in industrial and educational context, as well as an effective research collaboration among leading research parties in this community across Europe. (EU FP6 NoE, 2004 - 2007).
11. Researcher in ONTOCOM – a project in which we address methods and tools for estimating the costs involved in ontology engineering processes. We developed a cost model which uses empirically quantified cost drivers in a parametric formula in order to estimate the person months efforts invested in building, reusing or maintaining ontologies. The project is realized in cooperation with the Institute AIFB at the University of Karlsruhe. (2004 - today)
12. Project manager in SWPATHO – national project on ontology-based information retrieval, ontology-based information extraction, ontology reuse, medical ontologies funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG, 2003 - 2007).
13. Researcher in Makna/coefficientMakna – a project in which we developed the semantic wiki Makna based on JSPWiki. Makna was extended into coefficientMakna, towards support for collaborative ontology engineering in line with the DILIGENT methodology. The DILIGENT methodology was developed at the Institute AIFB, University of Karlsruhe, Germany. (2005 - 2006)
14. Researcher in Semantic Web Spaces – a project in which we investigated models and methods to build a semantic middleware based on tuple spaces and coordination systems.
15. Researcher in COSMOS – national project on location-based services, community support services, community portals, Semantic Web, eHealth funded by the German Ministry of Research and Education (BMBF, 2002 - 2004).
